Serving as a consultant for the Retirement Income Planning Group of Lincolnshire, Illinois, William Robert “Bill” Cunningham focuses his practice with women at or near retirement age. Bill is a certified long-term care specialist, a designation given for exceptional knowledge of Long Term Care Insurance. After his wife Carol was diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease, he founded Retirment Income Planning Group in 2017.
Illinois resident Bill Cunningham takes a personal approach to every client. After adding up all their sources of income, he crafts a plan for steadily increasing income. He tries to minimize the three risks that retirees face: soaring health care expenses, costs of long-term care, and the inappropriate design of their investment portfolio.
Mr. Cunningham became aware of these pitfalls through a neighbor whose husband had Alzheimer’s disease for 12 years. Paying for his care wiped out his retirement savings. Mr. Cunningham purchased long-term care insurance after witnessing this, and 2 years later his own spouse received the same diagnosis.
Currently, Mr. Cunningham is writing a Substack article about the emotional and financial toll of Alzheimer’s, titled The Shrinking Brain. When he takes breaks from work, he enjoys camping, hiking, and golf.
